John Belton is professor emeritus of film at Rutgers University and the author of five books, including Widescreen Cinema, winner of the 1993 Kraszna Krausz prize for books on the moving image, and American Cinema/American Culture(6th ed., 2022). He is Chair of the Board of Editors of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and editor of the Film and Culture series at Columbia University Press. He is a former member of the National Film Preservation Board (1989-96), and former Chair of the Archival Papers and Historical Committee of the SMPTE (1985-96).
